What The Fuck is Big Dream Theory?

Founder & Dreamer

Everything begins with an idea.

The idea for Big Dream Theory originally popped into my head in August 2022 after I received a message from Katrinna Cherie, a 66-year-old woman who randomly came across a blog I wrote in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. In this article, I share my perspective on why our family and friends never support our dreams. In her message (included below), Katrinna describes the ridicule she faced from those closest to her that led her to give up on pursuing her dreams. However, after coming across my article, she decided to dust herself off and give her dreams another shot.

Thank you for writing this post. It’s what I’ve been searching for for a while now to try and make sense of why my friends are acting the way they are.

Not one, but several friends I’ve had for decades have, as you wrote, consciously chosen not to support my dream to move abroad (and that makes so much sense how you put it, and is what I’ve thought, too, that they are very consciously choosing not to be supportive).

It has been hurtful and mind-boggling to me over this past year that in each instance, they have chosen to not ask me one single question or make any kind of statement or remark, supportive or otherwise, about this huge relocation I’m about to embark on my own with my 2 dogs in 1 year and 1 day, to be exact, from the U.S. to France. I’m making the move because I’ve always wanted to live in France and it’s now or never.

Your article resonated with me and helped me. I have to say I agree with you that the only reason I have been able to come up with is that they are jealous for not following their dreams in life. I will be moving next year at the age of 66, so maybe that’s doubly hard for them to accept, as folks my age aren’t supposed to still be filled with wild and crazy and passionate dreams, much less, still living them out.

Thank you again for this post. Very much appreciated.

Message Received

This message isn’t the only one I’ve received like this. Over the last few years, I’ve had numerous conversations with those who are both frustrated and exhausted with the 9 to 5 grind and dealing with the monotony of society as a whole—people looking for a way out of the matrix. Many intelligent and gifted people are seeking a new lease on life, one filled with passion, excitement, and challenges that come with building their dream life, versus continuing to live one that is uninteresting and unfulfilling.

After a while, we get tired of complaining about our job and listening to others complaining about theirs. One benefit of going through something as extreme as a global pandemic is realizing that we only get one life, and it can be taken away from us at any given moment. So why not use the time we have left on this planet to chase the one thing that will change our lives the most: our dreams?

For nearly a year, I sat on this idea, contemplating how to create a platform for the dreamers of the world. Dreamers just like me who feel trapped between doing what is in their hearts versus what society is pressuring them to do. I finally started sharing my vision of building a community geared towards people like Katrinna and myself. The vision to inspire others, family, friends, and coworkers, to flip the middle finger to the status quo and prove the naysayers and nonbelievers wrong.

Most importantly, to prove to ourselves that we have the power to go after our dreams against all odds.

Honestly, there was no real goal in the beginning beyond posting inspirational quotes to motivate aspiring creatives and highlight artists, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and community events in the Bay Area to show our supporters, and even myself, what is possible. Gradually, people discovered our page and began reaching out to us, letting us know how much these posts inspired them. At the end of the day, this is all I could ever ask for.

Then, something inside me clicked. Why limit this dream to just IG? Why not take things a step further and create a platform where I can share the stories of everyday dream chasers who motivate me and are making a real impact?

This is what is missing in the world today.

So, What is Big Dream Theory?

Big Dream Theory is a creative space where I can share my journey of working a 9-5 while chasing my dreams of becoming a freelance writer and entrepreneur and the struggles that come with it. I will also use this platform to showcase other creators in my community and across the globe who are living their dreams of encouraging others to do the same. Connecting and collaborating with like-minded individuals and sharing information and resources as we pursue our dreams and bring community value is the ultimate goal and why Big Dream Theory was created in the first place.

At its core, Big Dream Theory is a cause-first, media-second company that aims to unite dreamers together from all walks of life by bringing awareness to the struggles we face as we fight to overcome societal and economic pressures in pursuit of our dreams, all the while encouraging and providing support for creativity and authenticity in our community.

Naturally, we will continue to grow and evolve. Ideally, we want as many people to join our movement and become a part of our story as possible. We promise to stay true to our DIY values, creative expression, and inclusivity.

We will not allow the world to dictate who we are. We decide who we are. Whether you dream of traveling the world, becoming an author, opening a cafe, or filling in the blank, this community is for you.

This is a space for dreamers, not those who choose to settle for less.

I truly believe that with your help, Big Dream Theory will grow into something special and bigger than we can even imagine.

Remember, it’s the dreamers versus the world.

Never give up. Keep chasing dreams.
